Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare to perform rig floor operations
   • Obtain, interpret and confirm work requirements
   • Access, interpret documentation required to prepare, run and cement casing and confirm work activity is compliant
   • Identify and minimise environmental issues and potential hazards, and assess and address risks within scope of own role and according to workplace procedures
   • Select and wear personal protective equipment required for work activity
   • Communicate with other personnel at site as required and confirm briefings and handover details are communicated and received
2. Prepare, run and cement casing
   • Prepare casing and shoe joints according to rig operating procedures and manufacturer requirements
   • Prepare well heads and casing hangers, running tools, cementing equipment and casing centralisers according to operating requirements
   • Check lifting appliances and handling equipment, and identify and report or rectify faults as required and within scope of own role
   • Prepare and install guide frames if applicable
   • Prepare required well control equipment and mitigation control equipment according to site requirements
   • Run and fill casing in correct sequence to required cement line according to operational, safety and site requirements
   • Carry out cementing duties while mixing
3. Run cement stinger assembly (non-standard)
   • Land casing at required joint
   • Assist in running cement string inside casing as per rig specific operating procedure

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

prepare, run and cement casing on at least two occasions.

During the above, the candidate must:

locate and apply documentation, policies and procedures required for preparing, running and cementing casing

implement the requirements, procedures and techniques for preparing, running and cementing casing

work with others to prepare, run and cement casing, including:

organising work activities to meet all task requirements

communicating with others to receive and clarify work instructions.

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:

key policies, procedures and established requirements for preparing, running and cementing casing, including those for:

safety and environmental issues

operating and moving equipment

cleaning and maintaining equipment

manual handling

equipment condition and reporting mechanisms

preparing, running and filling casing

running cement stinger

housekeeping

the function of the triangular mark stamped just above the casing

well control

processes required if the well kicks while running casing.
